| Hilda Small |
Hilda Small was born to Jistine and Libre Achille in Diego Martin on February 16, 1908.
The fourth of seven children, she received her early education at Columbus School in Port of Spain and later at Diego Martin Girls’ RC School.
She lived in Woodbrook and St James as a little girl before moving back to Diego Martin for the rest of her life.
She tasted adversity at a very young age with the passing of her mother.
She met and married Edward Small and has been a widow for the past 56 years.
Mother of Kelvin, Esla, Merle, Helen and Vincent (deceased), her legacy of hard work and faith in God extends to 21 grandchildren, 53 great grands and a few great great grandchildren.
With a gentle spirit and quiet strength Hilda’s light continues to shine. The object of much love and admiration, she has received many commendations of honour from the Catholic community and the Evergreen Club of Diego Martin, in whose stage presentations she has been a participant. As we celebrate this moment in time, let us honour her kindness, her deep faith in God and her longevity. What a great gift from God!
Hilda will celebrate her 100th birthday with a Mass at St John’s RC Church, Diego Martin on Saturday 16. Today, February 10, there will be a grand celebration for all family members and friends at St Michael’s Hall in Diamond Vale.
Hilda helped draw up the list of invitees. She especially wants the children of her friends, now deceased, to be there.
Congratulations, Hilda! God’s continued blessings as you achieve this milestone! |
