Archdiocese to observe Day of Prayer

The Catholic Church has designated Friday, February 29 as an Archdiocesan Day of Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving to seek God's help in addressing the many difficulties confronting the national community.

The theme of the Day is REPENTANCE, RECONCILIATION AND SOLIDARITY. A similar day was observed in 2007 when the focus was on crime.

The Day is designed to be observed by parishes, schools, offices, homes and individuals and a special note has been prepared for use which includes scripture readings, prayers for repentance and special intentions.

Catholics are also being urged to make personal sacrifices and to give alms to the Archdiocese with an effort to develop proper values among the nation's schoolchildren.

The contributions received will be used to help fund the Post-SEA Values and Virtues Programme to be implemented in the Catholic school system, starting in March 2008. A training exercise for teachers is currently being undertaken preparatory to the introduction of the programme.

Donations may also be made to the charity of the individual's choice. All donations should be placed in envelopes marked "Lenten Almsgiving" and forwarded to Archbishop's House or any parish office.

Persons wishing further information are advised to contact the Archdiocesan Communications Commission at 623-7620.
