On Sunday, March 30, members of the Legion of Mary in Grenada, with Msgr Cyril Lamontagne, Vicar General, Spiritual Director of Comitium of Our Lady of the Rosary, and Sr Paula Lange, Spiritual Director of Grand Anse Praesidium, travelled by boat to Carriacou, for their annual Acies function.
On arrival, we were welcomed by our sisters of Carriacou and Petite Martinique. The group then walked in procession behind the Legion banner, to St Patrick’s RC Church, Hillsborough, singing Marian hymns.
At the church, we were warmly welcomed by the parish priest, Fr Augustine Amankwaa-Boateng, who expressed gratitude and pleasure at his first witnessing of such a gathering of Legionaries on the island.
During the ceremony and in his homily Msgr Lamontagne told Legionaries, that as Christians, if we are always conscious of God’s abundant love and goodness to us, we would be very joyful.
We ought to accept discomforts willingly, having promised Jesus during Lent “To suffer and to die with Thee”. And then to Mary, our Queen and Mother, “I am all yours, and all that I have is yours.” He also beseeched Legionaries to pray for Religious vocations in their families.
At the conclusion of Holy Mass, Sr Agnes Belmar, president of the Carriaciou Curia thanked the sisters and brothers from Grenada for braving the choppy seas, to assemble in Carriacou, after a very long period, for their great, central annual function. She specially thanked Sr Maureen Emmanuel, president of Comitium, for spearheading the planning for the occasion.
After socialising for a while, Legionaries returned to the Hillsborough Jetty, to board, “The Osprey”, for a less rough afternoon return trip, to the mainland.
