Answers to questions on human sexuality

When you hear the word ‘Sex’, what comes to mind?
Have you ever wondered what is God’s plan for sex?
Where have you learnt about human sexuality?

All these questions and more will be answered at an early December conference hosted by the Archdiocesan Family Life Commission (AFLC) entitled Created and Redeemed – making a journey with your human sexuality - based on Theology of the Body.

Theology of the Body refers to a series of 129 lectures given by Pope John Paul II during his Wednesday audiences in the Pope Paul VI Hall between September 1979 and November 1984.

The conference will be held over two days, December 6 and 7; venue is Chaguaramas Hotel and Convention Centre. Tickets cost TT$250 (residents) and US$50 (overseas delegates).

The main speaker at Created and Redeemed will be Christopher West, one of the most sought after speakers in the Catholic Church today. West is best known for his work and lectures on Theology of the Body. He has delivered more than 1000 public lectures on four continents, in nine countries, and in over 150 American cities. This will be his first time in the Caribbean.

West has described the teachings in Theology of the Body as helping people understand core values and “offers clarity to questions of human sexuality”.

“Theology of the Body is an interplay between sexuality, life and what it means to be human. Everything around us comes out of sexuality – our maleness, femaleness, music, talents, violence…. Sex is not a verb but a noun – it is who we are, it defines us and redefines us to reconnect with our original purpose”, West explains.

“Sex and human sexuality is the foundation of human life. There is a lot of work to be done in forming our sexual attitude.   Human history is determined by who is having sex with whom”.

All are invited to register for the Created and Redeemed conference – married couples, engaged couples, priests, catechetics and religious education teachers, ecclesial communities, young adults, members of Family Life Units (FLUs), all persons involved in the mission of the Church.

To register, become a sponsor, make a donation or obtain general information contact the AFLC office at 672-4478 or 672-4280, or visit http://createdandredeemed.rcpos.org.

Fr Robert Llanos, Vicar for Family Life states that  “In the light of what is taking place in marriages and family life today, something radical needs to happen for the preservation and healing of these two fundamental institutions. This Theology of the Body conference will radically change the way people look at their world and themselves and then change will happen.”
