There was great joy on Monday, August 29, when Bro Matthew Martinez OP made his solemn profession as a Dominican. The profession took place during the celebration of the Eucharist at St Finbar's church in Diego Martin. Bro Matthew was joined by his family, relatives and friends, many members of religious congregations in Trinidad and Tobago and by a large representation of Dominican friars, sisters and Dominican laity. Bro Matthew made profession in the hands of the regional prior of the vicariate of Trinidad and Tobago - Fr Michael Hayden OP. Bro Matthew returned to Ireland the following week to continue his theological studies.
New Novices

September 14, the feast of the Triumph of the Cross, is also the feast of the Irish Dominican province. It is on this day that traditionally new novices are received into the Order. In keeping with that tradition, the Irish Dominican friars received five novices in a ceremony of clothing during the conventual Mass in Saint Mary's Dominican church, Pope's Quay Cork. Among the group of new novices were Christophe Cole and Sean Crepin, both from the parish of St Phillip and St James, Chaguanas.
