Drummers and students of Nelson Street Boys’ RC School
Drummers and students of Nelson Street Boys’ RC School

The principal and staff of Nelson Street Boys’ RC School are committed to providing quality all-round education to our students. To this end the school has successfully participated in a number of extra and co-curricular activities. In keeping with the designation of 2011 as the UN Year for People of African Descent, the students were encouraged to research various aspects of African life, one of which was African clothing. Our drummers were crowned co-champions in the primary schools African drumming category at San Fest.

The school also participated in the Read for the Record/Reading Around the World project, the highlight of which was a visit by Errol Fabien and his group. The students are also exposed to competition in Reading, Mental and Spelling both internal and external and have performed creditably. Other activities include the creation of a steel orchestra and choir. All indications are the school is moving from strength to strength and the quality of performance in all areas will continue to rise. – A teacher
