A Taste of the Caribbean - sounds like a food festival. Well, absolutely, it was food for the body and food for the soul. In the United States the month of June is observed as Caribbean Heritage Month and the recently formed Caribbean Catholics of North America (CCNA) held their first A Taste of the Caribbean event on June 9 at the St Michael the Archangel Church Silver Spring, Maryland, USA. With the national flags of a number of CARICOM states on display, and a wide variety of food and drinks, it was indeed a taste of the Caribbean by Catholics living in the US. The event consisted of Holy Mass, a cultural display, music, and of course all sorts of Caribbean cuisine from countries like Jamaica, Dominica, St Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada and Guyana. Trinidad-based priest Fr Godfrey Stoute was the celebrant for the Mass. Among the dignitaries who attended was Grenada’s Ambassador to the USA and the OAS, Gillian Bristol. "It was a beautiful coming together to celebrate and worship about our culture and in our faith", Ambassador Bristol said. Although this was the very first gathering, it attracted people from as far away as Florida and Texas. The hope is that this celebration of faith and culture will grow over the years. - Francis Farrier, Catholic Standard ________________________________________________________________________________________ **DISCLAIMER**: User comments posted on this website are the sole views and opinions of the comment writer and are not representative of Camsel/Catholic News or its staff.
