Ecumenism is alive and well in Grenada as four members of the Conference of Churches - Catholic, Methodist, Anglican and Presbyterian - came together for the first time to commemorate Palm Sunday.
All gathered together at a predetermined point and were called to worship by Bishop Vincent Darius of the St George’s diocese. Canon Christian Glassglow of the Anglican Church did the prayer of blessing and blessed the palms with Cathedral administrator Fr Felix Nnabuchi. Rev Tessica Hackshaw of the Methodist Church read the Gospel and the reflection was given by Rev Osbert James of the Presbyterian Church. The faithful displayed high spirits and lustily sang as they processed en route to the various churches. As was pre-arranged, the procession stopped at the entrance of the Methodist Church and the ministers exchanged palms and the sign of peace. Canon Glassglow gave the concluding remarks saying “It was a wonderful experience to witness the coming together of members of different Christian traditions to profess their faith in Jesus Christ…It is a pity that we now have to go our separate ways to conclude a very beautiful beginning of our Palm Sunday celebrations. I am praying and hoping for the day when we can all have one celebration in one place.” The resounding applause by the Christian faithful showed their approval of Canon Glassglow’s remarks. Thereafter everyone dispersed to their various churches.
