Sunday July 20, 2008 FROM THE PARISHES
Achievement day for children of Success

The Children’s Ministry of the Corpus Christi, Success RC Church had an afternoon of delightful celebrations on their Achievement Day, June 19, 2008.

The pomp and ceremony lasted for almost three hours at the newly built parish hall on the church grounds.

The lively Cheryl Gordon-Thomas, emcee, smoothly maneuvered the order of the evening.

The audience comprising parents, parishioners and specially invited guests were treated to drama, choral-speaking, singing and pan ensembles performed by the children.

Ranging in age from 7 to 15 years, they beamed with excitement when they were called upon to display their talents. Under the tutelage of Merle Albino-de Coteau, they completed one year of Music Theory and successfully wrote the Grade 1 examination offered by the Royal School of Music. The children’s performance was impressive! They presented sound entertainment as they harmonised their recorders, pans and trap set.

It was an evening where praise, prizes, applause and appreciation were profuse.

Special awards were given in the following categories:
Best All-round Student
Most Improved Student
Regularity at Sunday Mass
Participation in Music
Dance and Aerobics

First Communion and Appreciation certificates were also distributed. Every child had his/her moment to be centre-stage. Most encouraging was the parent support. They too were tangibly recognised for their efforts in assisting the Ministry.

Tokens of appreciation were presented to the teachers, Spiritual Director, Fr Dwight Merrick and the leader of the Children’s Ministry, Enid Browne, who spared nothing in furthering the children’s holistic development.

Great job, Enid and team in producing budding musicians, actors/actresses, singers, eloquent speakers and for moulding the character of the children’s spirituality!

It comes to mind that, “It is very important for us, through parishes and leaders, to celebrate the youths and to listen to their contributions.” Archbishop Edward Gilbert
