Slippers

One of the few words I learnt in Chinese from my father was the word for slippers.

It was his first request at the end of the day as he took off his shoes.

How many of us know the pain of tight fitting shoes that we have only bought for style not comfort! We suffer through the ceremony or wedding and just want to reach home to take them off.

This orchid is called a slipper orchid and if you look closely you will see why.

It seemed to me a good image for this Easter time when Jesus is so relaxed with His friends, telling us not to be afraid in spite of our failures, preparing breakfast for us, unbinding us from our own tight fitting bonds.

Cock up your feet, He says. Relax after the rigours of Lent and flow in my peace now.
