January 6, 2008 PHOTO MEDITATIONS

Sun-rise Surp-rise

A hymn we sing now and then goes like this: “I know nothing of tomorrow except the sun will rise...”

This photo sent to me by a reader Eurico Jardim is the first surprise of the New Year. I certainly did not plan to offer this reflection but I am happy to change direction and focus on the dawn sunrise in Toco, a place I love so much, having lived there for nine years.

In the distance is a light, not of the sun as we might suppose but of an oil rig which we sometimes make into our Son!!! Who knows what tomorrow will bring?

Having lived with the clouds and darkness of 2007, I welcome the sunrise, the hope and promise of a new day. By the way, who would have thought that West Indies would win a test in South Africa?

I trust the God of surprises in 2008. His plans are always better than mine. Today is all we have to let our loved ones know we care, to live, laugh and give thanks. Like the old people say, "Tomorrow please God!"
