This orchid seems to have been "touched up" by the Divine Artist who felt that a little bit of colour would add to its beauty. The brush marks seem fresh, as if the work is incomplete.
The flower reminded me of a retreat I attended in July when the Dominican priest from Grenada invited us to think of ourselves, and others, as God's work of art.
He pointed out that the beauty is not exterior (otherwise some of us might fail the test!) but interior - the Divine image planted within us.
His work is never complete. He keeps on improving His handiwork. We are a work in progress.
A poster stuck up on the door of a Sister's room proclaimed: "God does not make junk". We can imagine God gazing at us so as to wonder again at the job He had done and still has to do. A little quote sums it up:
God wants us to sit for Him
not that He may paint our portrait
but that He may paint His own
within us. |
