Movement during weddings, funerals, etc
by Fr Garfield Rochard

Sixth in a series of articles on the celebration of the Mass by Fr Garfield Rochard, member, Liturgical Commission, Archdiocese of Port of Spain and consultant, Antilles Liturgical Commission

There are times for movement in worship at Sundays, and for special functions like weddings or funerals. Once we enter the church while worship is in session, we need to be aware of what is being celebrated at that moment.

One does not move or walk during the:
Readings of the Word
Gospel or Homily
Eucharistic Prayer

During the LITURGY OF THE WORD
If arriving during the readings, wait until the Responsorial Psalm or Gospel acclamation, to move into seated area.

The same applies during wedding celebrations. Photographers and video camera operators need to follow this rule as well.

At a Nuptial Mass there is no movement during the EUCHARISTIC PRAYER.

Video cameras should be placed in designated positions in the church.
During the various Marriage Rites controlled movement is allowed provided it does not distract or disrupt the ceremony.

As a general rule, during the processions (and there are five of them) is conducive to movement of persons.
