On Sunday, December 17, the Chaguanas parish held its Christmas Concert in the Chaguanas RC Church.

The afternoon proved to be most entertaining with enthralling renditions of traditional Christmas songs.

The concert started promptly at 4.00 p.m. with a prayer and the national anthem played on the pan. Then the main choir took the stage.

This choir consisted chiefly OF members of the Longdenville community, accompanied by members of the Chaguanas community.

The conductor was a well-known voice trainer in the area, Narriman Gloria Hosein.

For the first half of the concert they treated the audience to a number of traditional Christmas carols such as Chantez Noel and Mary’s Boy Child with much vigour and enthusiasm.

During the intermission, in which the audience was able to purchase refreshments, they were able to enjoy the sound of parang music from a parang group from the Cunupia parish.

After the intermission, there was a very well choreographed dance performed by a group of young liturgical dancers again from the Longdenville community.

Then was a duet by two members of the Chaguanas community followed by another duet by two other members before the two duets came together to perform Mary Did you Know.  Koreen Villafana of the Chaguanas community then sang The Birthday of a King.

Following this, Ms Hosein joined the choir. Her solo performances of O Holy Night and Ave Maria brought members of the audience to their feet in a standing ovation.

The choir then took the stage again to do two final songs - Paramin, which proved to be the liveliest piece of the afternoon, led by Diane White and We Wish you a Merry Christmas.

In all the afternoon was quite successful making all quite excited for “an even grander celebration” for Easter promised by the parish priest Fr Assing.
