Sunday January 28, 2007 LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Wonderful work of Young Leaders

DEAR EDITOR: “Faith in action.” These words came to mind as I read with pride the article in last week’s edition of the Catholic News on a needy family who received a new home from the Young Leaders 2006 of St Joseph’s Convent, Port of Spain.

Congratulations are in order for the young ladies of this school as well as the principal, teachers and parents associated with the project. They worked very hard and made the lives of their fellow man (neighbour) better so that they too can live a life with dignity. They did exactly what Jesus commanded us to do, “Love one another just as I have loved you” John 15:12.

The Catholic News however should have given this article a bit more prominence in the newspaper instead of on page 8 as this article highlighted the wonderful work of some of our teenagers.

What is happening
in our Catholic schools?

DEAR EDITOR: Please permit me some space to sound a wake up call to my Catholic brothers and sisters. I have noticed that the preparation of our young children for First Communion (The Body and Blood of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ) is being gradually eliminated from our Catholic primary schools.

WHY IS THIS? Eucharist is Jesus Himself. It is central to the Faith. It teaches our children the basic commandment – Love God and your fellowman. What is happening! Could you imagine anything like this happening in a Vedic or Islamic school!

Why are these schools Catholic? If parents are not up to the job, at least the school should fill the gap. Why dwindle the children’s knowledge of God - Father, Son and Spirit?

Social Justice is fighting political smelter battles among other things. Who is fighting for the souls of our children? This is a disservice to the children and an insult to our God who died for us!

Remember the scripture about the talents? What He has given to us will be taken away.

The power of prayer and fasting

THE EDITOR: Jesus wants to offer us many great things, but so often we refuse His help.

He said, “Ask and you shall receive...” Before Jesus started His ministry He prayed and fasted for forty days and forty nights. I have witnessed the power of God through prayer and fasting. We must pray and fast for everything in our lives. But we must remember that prayer in the form of Eucharistic Adoration is most powerful!

I belong to one of the post-Confirmation groups in Siparia and we have dedicated our prayer to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament for the homeless children. We invite all to pray for these children and ask God to shower His Divine Mercy on them.

Also, we can take example from young Choc'late Allen who gave her witness against crime. We should not doubt the power of God! Join us and say this prayer for the homeless children.

Divine Mercy Prayer for the Homeless Children

Eternal Father, reach out with Your tender love and mercy, to these pitiful children who wander the streets at night... With Your unfathomable love and mercy, bring them back to their families, or to a home You choose for them.

Jesus, through Your Divine Mercy, enable us to help these poor children, with our deeds and with our prayers.

Holy Spirit, lead many to reach out in love to poor children in distress.
Mother Mary, send out your mother's love to those poor children who have never really known the love and tenderness of an earthly mother.

We unite this prayer with all the prayers of Divine Mercy offered to the Eternal Father this day for lonely, distressed and homeless children and people of the world.

O Blood and Water which gushed forth from the heart of Jesus, as a font of mercy for us, I trust in thee.
Amen.
Coryse Marie Noel and the post-Confirmation Class, Siparia

Why worry when you can pray

DEAR EDITOR: Praying to our Heavenly Father is so soothing, rather than worrying which is detrimental to our health.

Prayer gives us peace of mind, heart, body and soul, and we achieve optimism, and positivity, getting a wonderful feeling of warmth and joy, telling us we will succeed our endeavours. We must keep on believing and or continually keeping our faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.

Prayers are lessons from God who keeps us on the right track and in so doing we are rewarded. He is a merciful God who understands when we make that mistake; he forgives us willingly, and to our realization we feel an aura of love rather than being sarcastic or having hatred for one another. Additionally we achieve a good sense so as to pleasant and live in harmony with others.

Many of us are intensely jarred after we get sad news about sudden death of our brother or sister. This prepares us, as we all will die one day.

We must always take time to reflect on where we are heading and pray to our Lord Jesus Christ for guidance. Don’t be doubtful. Keep focussed on God. Let us willingly get involved in doing good deeds instead of looking down at our neighbour.

When you put a smile on a brother's face, in your heart it makes you happy and this is the way life should be, as we are all children of God.

Do not be afraid to risk failure in order to gain success.
For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.” Isaiah 41:13.
