Mary “Mae” O'Neill, the mother of Archbishop Edward J Gilbert, died peacefully on Monday, February 6. She had been living in Chicago for the last few years near to other family members. Mae O' Neil was 95 years of age.

Archbishop Gilbert travelled to the United States on Wednesday, February 8, to attend the Mass of Christian Burial which was scheduled for 10.00 a.m. Friday 10, at St Edna's Church in Arlington Heights, Illinois .

A special Mass for the repose of Mrs O'Neill will be celebrated at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception at 5.00 p.m. on Monday, February 13.
