Be a good Catholic for life

Story and photos by Desmond Durham

“Be a good Catholic for life” was the advice Archbishop Gilbert imparted to 91 young men and women who were confirmed at the St Joseph RC Church last Sunday.

The candidates, resplendently attired for the occasion were anointed with chrism and received the Holy Spirit in the church packed and overflowing with family, sponsors and friends.

Concelebrating with Archbishop Gilbert were Fr Ferdinand Warner, parish priest and Fr Donal Mc Mahon. During the Mass the confirmation candidates, with lighted candles, renewed their baptism vows and were told that they should relight these candles on the anniversary date to remind themselves of the importance and significance of confirmation.

The combined choirs of St Joseph and Mt D’or led by Yvonne Henry added to the solemnity and joy of the occasion.

The confirmation candidates assisted in the collection, prayers of the faithful and a beautiful ensemble rendition of the meditation hymn As the Potter’s Clay to the accompaniment of guitar, pans, violins, flute and keyboard.
