The three-hour Sunday afternoon session (3.00-6.00 p.m.) in Norton Hall will be led by Christine Reinhard, liturgical design consultant and artist.
She will also lead two general deanery workshops in various locations. These will build on sessions Mrs Reinhard conducted in 2006 at the invitation of Bishop Vincent Darius OP.
The March 4 topics for all artists will include permanent art for the cathedral and other churches, and also artwork that changes with the seasons in the Church’s liturgical calendar, such as banners.
“We hope artists of every kind – carvers, painters, musicians, dancers, fabric workers, potters, basket weavers – will come on March 4 to make suggestions and discuss possibilities for real beauty in our churches, as they are rebuilt,” explained Fr Sean Doggett, chair of the Diocesan Building Committee. “That Sunday afternoon will be the time to share new ideas.”
A date for the start of reconstruction of the hurricane-destroyed cathedral has yet to be announced.
Two general deanery sessions on Church art will be held for priests, religious, lay leaders, all those involved in liturgy, and anyone interested.
The first evening will focus on church designdiscussed theologically and in terms of design options. The second evening will deal with permanent Church art and the seasonal environment and art for liturgy.
The first deanery workshops will be February 28 and March 1 in the Grenville presbytery, 6.00-9.00 p.m., for parishes of the eastern and southern deaneries. Similar workshops will be held March 2 in Hillsborough for Carriacou and Petite Martinique (times to be announced); March 5 and 6, 6.00-9.00 p.m., in the Victoria presbytery for the western deanery; and March 7 and 8, 6.00-9.00 p.m., in Norton Hall for the St George’s and southern deaneries.
