Ash Wednesday Mass
Find your secret place for individual prayer this Lent, urged Rosary/Gonzales parish priest Fr Clyde Harvey during the midday Ash Wednesday Mass at Rosary Church. In a brief sermon, he said that Ash Wednesday was the 40-day period of preparation for Easter Sunday and we must maintain that link.
Referring to the Ash Wednesday readings, he urged each member of the large congregation - which comprised mainly of workers in the vicinity of the historic church - to find their “private room”, the inner space of your heart, to pray and meet Christ.
“If you do that, it will change your life,” he remarked. Fr Harvey also invited all to keep the expression “the goodness of God” in their minds and hearts during the Lenten season. He wished all a happy Lent, and invited the congregation to greet those around them.
Ashes were distributed after the Mass, first to those who needed to return to work, and then to the rest of the congregation. – RS |
