Sunday March 26, 2006 FROM THE PARISHES
St Augustine ministry fair a success

By Khadine Knights

The parish, of St John the Baptist RC church in St Augustine celebrated Covenant Day also called Ministry Fair on Sunday, March 5. The theme of the day was We are one body, one family.

The purpose of the fair was to encourage parishioners to join the different ministries that were featured. Some of these included Hospitality, Altar Servers, Youth, St Vincent de Paul, Liturgy and Vocations.

All the booths were decorated beautifully and displayed in a tangible way what each group was about and what purpose it served in the parish.

The attendance was impressive as even babies and seniors were seen admiring the booths. There were favourable comments from visitors who came from other parishes. They thought that it was a very good idea and expressed their willingness to introduce a similar event in their own parishes.

The youth ministry introduced games for the young and young at heart and this proved to be quite enjoyable.

No such event would be complete without mouth-watering dishes such as sada roti, a tasty lunch, and delightful tea plate items.

Towards the end of the day, prizes were awarded for the best displays. The winners were as follows: Best Male booth – the Vocations display presented by the Benedictines of Mount St Benedict. Best Female booth: the Carmelite Sisters.

There was a tie for second place – the Youth and Catechists' booths. Makini Mc Guire and Tatyana Joab won the door prizes in the childrens' category, while Dr Neil Peters and Marina Joab won for the adults.

Our fun-loving parish priest, Fr Gerard, handed out the prizes.

The organising committee, Louis Julien, Anne Garcia, Simon Burke, James and Sophia Tung, Cicero and Margaret Lallo, and Brenda Gabriel must be congratulated for the success of the affair. Mention must be made of the efforts of Messrs Ciprini and Alleyne for their contributions in the areas of security and cleaning up.
