On Tuesday, March 7, Bernard Garcia and Ruby Nelson, our Catholic Education Regional Officers (CERO) visited our school, Mundo Nuevo RC to see our Passion presentation.
Our small staff of four and the students were able to use drama to show how Jesus' suffering can be applied to everyday life. Mrs Stephens did a wonderful mural with the cross on Calvary , which was the ideal setting for the piece.
Mrs Nelson explained the meaning of Lent to the children telling them it was about prayer, fasting and charity. She gave us a lot of good advice. The CEROs visited our classrooms and were satisfied with what they saw.
The following Friday we did our Stations of the Cross with a walk around the school. At every station, students dramatised a current ill in society, such as murder, reckless driving and domestic violence. They used these short skits to demonstrate that our sins caused Jesus to endure much pain and humiliation.
We plan to take the Stations of the Cross to the streets of our village and hope to get more villagers to participate.
During this time, we have been praying for God to grant eternal rest to the late Rosie Garcia, a former cleaner of the school. She was really a symbol of determination. She managed to always smile and had something witty to say despite her very humble existence.
We will miss her very much at our school's Christmas luncheon. We prayed the rosary for her every night up until nine nights after her death, as is the custom in our community.
We are making every effort to keep our Lenten promises made on Ash Wednesday during our annual service. We hope to participate in all retreats and Masses during this season and at Easter. |
