| Fr Peter Nicholson |
Fr Peter Nicholson, CSSp, died on Sunday, April 23, at Fatima College , where he had lived for many years. Fr Nicholson was editor of this paper for some 17 years.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St Theresa's, Woodbrook, where he had served as parish priest, on Wednesday, April 26. In addition to the many priests (some 50) and Religious, the church was full of relatives, friends and parishioners of St Joseph, St Patrick and St Theresa's where he had served.
Provincial Superior of the Holy Ghost Fathers, Fr Herbert Charles presided and delivered the homily. Archbishop Gilbert was present in the sanctuary.
At the start of the Mass in thanksgiving and celebration for the life of Fr Peter, Fr Knolly Knox who was ordained with Fr Peter nearly 55 years ago delivered a short eulogy.
Fr John Lawrence, SJ
Fr John Lawrence, a priest of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits), died of a heart attack at the Erin Parish presbytery during the night of Wednesday, April 19
Fr Lawrence came from his native India to the Archdiocese of Port of Spain in 1979. Over the years he served in the parishes of Cathedral, San Fernando, San Juan, Carapichaima, Cedros, Coryal, Barataria and Erin .
A first funeral liturgy was celebrated the morning of Saturday, April 22 at St Francis of Assisi Parish church, Erin to accommodate members of his immediate family and parishioners.
A second Mass of Christian Burial took place Monday, April 24 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. In the absence of the Jesuit Provincial Archbishop Gilbert presided. Over forty priests, concelebrated and the top half of the Cathedral was filled with many Religious of the archdiocese.
Fr Edward Bermingham SJ preached the homily. Following the Mass, Fr Lawrence's remains were interred in the burial plot of the Archdiocese of Port of Spain at the Lapeyrouse Cemetery . God of mercy and love, grant to John and Peter, your servants and priests, a glorious place at your heavenly table, for you made them here on earth faithful ministers of your word and sacrament.
