Fr Michael Paul Moses has been the spark to get a fire going in our parish. All activities that have occurred in the parish over the last few years can be deemed successful but not without Fr Moses’ contribution. He has really awakened our parish from its slumber.
Under his leadership many changes were made, beginning with the Confirmation class. We, the young people, were given exciting teachings on the Catholic Faith and along with the discipline and etiquette instilled in us, major changes in the attitude of some of our youths were experienced.
Our parish has been especially active over the past few months. We had a wonderful Christmas season. During the Carnival weekend some of our young people attended a camp hosted by the St Francis of Assisi parish under the mantle of Fr Ian Taylor and Sr Janet Chinnia.

It was here that Fr Moses’ work was concretised. The Holy Spirit was working, removing hearts of stone, and creating hearts for love in our young people and even in the adults present.
This camp (approximately 200 strong) ran from the February 17– 20. Our young people were treated to an up-close moment with God in the form of the Blessed Sacrament.
As we moved through the streets of Sangre Grande, the mercy of God as well as His love was felt as we were able to do some evangelising to drug addicts and to others who seemed to have lost their way.
At the end of this spiritually fulfilling experience, the youth of our parish left an indelible mark on the hearts of all present at the camp. It was an experience none of us would forget.
Our parish Life in the Spirit Seminar bore fruit and stirred hearts with the fire of His love. Out of this came a weekly prayer meeting which continues to be a blessing among all those present.
Again, all thanks to our parish priest for his vision. Our young people have led the charge and we have witnessed the Lord’s miracles of conversion and healing. For many, the prayer meeting has become a lifeline. God has made our people hungry for the word and thirsty for His Spirit.
Our Lenten season was one of reflection and meditation on the sacrificial love of Jesus Christ. We had a fantastic retreat with Fr Wilfred John who shared his experiences with us and he attested to the fact that God was really working among our young people. Not only was the retreat an experience for us but it was one for him as well.
During this Lent another of Fr Moses’ dreams came to life. We were able to do a crusade that touched the lives of many. Those who were there can testify to God’s river of grace gushing through the streets of Las Lomas.
Our Holy Week and Easter Triduum culminated our Lenten observances. The resurrection power of Jesus was felt as both Talparo and San Rafael held the joyous Easter Vigil Masses and Brazil and Las Lomas celebrated the Easter morning Masses.
The Renewal of Baptismal Promises was the highpoint of the Easter celebrations. On Monday, April 9, we ended our major activities with our Kite Flying and Easter Bonnet Parade where adults, youths and children came together as one; in creativity, fun and laughter.
The DVD presentations by Fr Raniero Cantalamessa, on the Lukan Acts of the Apostles Chapter 2, in our bi-monthly bible study led by Fr Moses, has definitely helped us to understand this 50-day Eastertide celebrations which will culminate on the Feast of Pentecost.
Finally, we give thanks to God, as we continue to persevere in making our parish vision - Faith Becoming Culture - a reality.
