On Easter Monday, April 17, our five communities once again came together for our annual Easter Bonnet Parade held at the Brazil High School . The show got under way at 4:00 p.m. with an opening prayer by Fr Michael Moses, our parish priest.
Our National Anthem was sung followed by the welcome remarks from the President of our Pastoral Council, Hollis Raghunanan. Our young emcees were the President and Vice President of our Parish's Abstinence Club, Kervin Preudhomme and Edel Phillip respectively, who both did a wonderful job.
A lot of effort and hard work went into the preparation of the participants' bonnets and dresses as was evident by the elaborate designs. The judges indeed had a tough time, for all the participants looked like winners.
Each participant received a token for their participation and the winner of the three categories each received a lovely trophy. There were lots of other prizes distributed. There were winners in the audience too, as chits were placed under three chairs.
Upon hearing this, there was a mad scramble as everyone overturned their chairs to see if they were the lucky ones. The three winners each received non-alcoholic wines.
I would like to urge parents and guardian to get their children more involved in events like these, so that the children would develop a sense of value and self-esteem which they would surely need, especially in their teenage years.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank our judges, Linda Sahadeo, Susan Ramtahal and Henry Ramtahal, for devoting their time and talent in serving our parish in such a gracious manner.
We thank all those who most kindly assisted by donating/sponsoring prizes, foodstuff, assisting on the day, or in whatever way.
Without your kindness this event would not have been possible. You are indeed our valuable support. May God continue to shower you and yours with abundant blessings. We thank sincerely Fr Moses, for his continued vision and hope for our parish. Thanks to the organisers Lucy Raghuanan, Kathleen Ragoobarsingh, Bernadette Dickson and Donna Guevara for providing our parish with such top class entertainment.
On Easter Monday, April 17, our Parish Annual Kite Flying Competition was held as usual at the Brazil Recreation Ground. The Lord presented an ideal day with sunny conditions – the sky, clear and the winds just right for flying kites.
This event is one of the occasions where people from the different communities of our parish come together to enjoy a day of fun and laughter, and some with the aim of winning a prize.
What a beautiful sight it was to see the sky all decked off with spots in all different shapes and sizes – a kaleidoscope of colours. On the ground were the 30 participants together with those who came for the fun.
Of course there were some funny moments like when a Mad Bull kite came roaring too close for comfort making some almost jump out of their skins. This Mad Bull, diving like a plane, came into contact with a little boy's Octopus kite, which ended up sailing away, not on the sea, but through the air. A lady was flying her kite and the bobbin dropped from her hand and she had to run after kite and bobbin.
The event ended at approximately 2:00 p.m. with the distribution of prizes to the winners.
Special thanks to the organisers, Messrs J Naipaul, R Smith, Andrew Mahabir and Glen Guevara. Thanks to all those who assisted in making this event successful for yet another year. |
