Sunday May 21, 2006 FROM THE PARISHES
Basic communities of Mt Lambert
mark 25 years

By Neidha Marshall
Sinsinawa Dominican Associate
Member of Preaching Team

On Monday, March 6, the Basic Christian Communities of Mount Lambert celebrated their 25th Anniversary. The two Communities came together on this joyful occasion. The “Christ Is The Way” Community (East) led by Lena Alexis and the “Eternal Glory” Community (West) led by Monica Codrington.

It was 25 years of total commitment and dedication of a group of persons who came together as a parish cell to worship in prayer, testimony, scripture and petition, and also to attend to the needs of the sick and lonely and to be attentive and involved with the parish school and the Children’s Home in Diego Martin.

Twenty-five years ago on March 5, 1981, Fr Rudy Mohammed, the then parish priest of Mt Lambert RC Church invited Sr Glenda Rodriguez OP (RIP) to form parish cells in the community.

Fr Mohammed together with Fr George Lewis celebrated Mass at the anniversary function. There were two homilies given that evening by both priests. They urged us to love God and neighbour.

Members of the Preaching Team were present as well as the Sinsinawan Dominican Sisters Jean, Cathy and Toni OP and the Associates, Novices and Candidates, plus the members of both communities. The event was held at the home of Clyde and Lena Alexis.

From what we know this community is a light in the parish and the leaders have to be commended for their faithfulness and steadfastness to God. We wish them fruitful years in the vineyarad of the Lord. Some will sow and some will reap.

To celebrate as a family is wonderful. We felt humbled, privileged and honoured to be present to witness God’s power and love. Gail Austin addressed the Community and singled out members who were present from inception – a journey of 25 years. There was much laughter and memories relived.

We enjoyed a very tasty dinner prepared by the Alexis’ family. A photo album made the rounds to the delight of many. In the photos we looked so young and slim and it was so “holy” to relive memories, events and occasions.

We congratulate both communities on their achievement under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. May you always be the light in your community and always open to the Holy Spirit. As the late Archbishop Pantin would say, “It is all God’s work”. Thank you for being an example of what God can do.
