Saturday, May 20 was indeed a memorable day in the life of the residents of the East Dry River area.

It had nothing to do with the crime that seems prevalent these days. It was an occasion when residents seemed at peace with Almighty God as they participated in Holy Mass at which Archbishop Gilbert presided.

Fr Michael Makhan Spiritual Director of the Association concelebrated.

Also in attendance at this celebration was the President of the nation His Excellency, Professor George Maxwell Richards.

After Mass, the President addressed the gathering. He commended the Association for their efforts in getting the Skills Programme off the ground.

He noted with interest the proposed construction of a play area for preschoolers, “Br George Bowen ‘Sir’ Discovery Park”, to be named after the Association’s founder.

Following his address, a sumptuous breakfast was served followed by a short variety concert. The St Joseph RC Church choir, which provided music for the Mass, also gave musical renditions for the concert.

Trustee of the Association, Jerome Jones gave the vote of thanks. This marked the formal end of the function, after which the distribution of hampers to the needy followed.
