First Friday adoration in Mayo

by Maureen Landeau and Iris Thomas
Mayo Community, Tortuga Parish

From 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. every first Friday of the month, the Mayo RC Church is open to anyone who wants to spend time in silent adoration before the Blessed Sacrament. The day always ends with a vigil from 7:00-8:00 p.m., during which time the congregation gathers to pray the rosary, sing choruses and make intercessions.

The First Friday in February we received a prophecy that said, “There is a darkness in the lives of my people. Go and tell my people to come and praise and glorify my holy name, to receive my peace, love and mercy in my presence.” This message was confirmed through scripture verses Jer 22:1-6, Dt 29:1-29, Dt 30:1-20, James 1:16-27.

We decided to go on Thursdays from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m. to tell God’s people. The novena to the Sacred Heart was said for the success of this mission. We visited house to house and shared about the Divine Mercy of Jesus as we distributed copies of Sister Faustina’s messages.

We also shared scripture texts, prayed and invited all to come and adore Jesus for one hour. We visited the Mayo RC School and invited the teachers and students to come and adore.

Fruits were born on the first Friday of March. Twenty-seven new persons came to the adoration, including nineteen students and a teacher. Two persons shared their experiences on their First Friday visit to the Blessed Sacrament. One said she was able to pray without feeling afraid to share her feelings and she felt “so light and peaceful.”

While the other said that she saw Jesus present in the Blessed Sacrament and was able to pray for her personal needs. She encouraged others to fast, pray and trust in God and He will answer their prayer.

She realised that when she fasted and prayed she was better able to get into the presence of Almighty God. Healing also took place at the First Friday vigil where an individual, who was unable to raise her right hand for years was capable of doing so after praying and praising God in front of the Blessed Sacrament.

That night we sang “To God be the glory for the great things he has done” and we knew God would continue to do great things for all who come to adore Him on the Fist Friday of the month.
