It was a steaming hot day, Sunday, April 15, Divine Mercy Sunday, when the faithful of the Church of the Incarnation, Maloney Gardens assembled in the car park of Building 18.
They were going to march through the streets of their community giving witness to Jesus’ Divine Mercy. Some of the marchers wore light blue polo jerseys, bearing the Divine Mercy image.

Heading the procession was a station wagon with a loud speaker on its hood. Seated in the car were Julie Fuentes, Eileen Green and Mary Vincent leading the marchers in songs and prayer. Mr Granger and another parishioner held a large picture of Jesus with the inscription “Jesus, I trust in you.”
Mr Hinkson and Gemma Joseph were in front waving flags. Occasionally our parish priest Fr George Lewis took the microphone and prayed fervently for families in Maloney Gardens.
The procession left the carpark and made its way to Canary Lane, Swallow Lane, Sandrelin, then to Maloney Boulevard. Curious onlookers stared at us from their homes and vehicles.
These words rang out through the community, in the burning hot sun: “Eternal Father, I offer you the Body and the Blood, Soul and Divinity of your dearly beloved son, Our Lord Jesus Christ in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world- Have Mercy on us.”
Members of other parishes waited in our church at Willet Avenue, for the closing service. Divine Mercy March was a witness to the community of Maloney that we are proud to be members of the Roman Catholic Church.
The words of the responsorial psalm of that Sunday remained with me: “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is Good, for His love has no end.” |
