Sunday June 4, 2006 FROM THE PARISHES
Convenant Day at St Mary's, Mucurapo

This Sunday the parishioners of St Mary’s RC Church, Mucurapo will be hosting their Covenant Day.
Highlights of the celebration are as follows:

  1. Fr Gerard Tang Choon, O Carm will be celebrating Mass for the first time in the parish as parish priest
  2. In keeping with the Synod mandate, an assembly identifying all the ministries of the parish will be exhibited in the church’s parking lot.
  3. All who have missed our beloved Fr Garth Eversley’s Farewell Mass on May 31, will have another chance to bid him farewell as he takes up his new role as Formation Director of the Carmelite Community.

We wish Fr Garth all God’s blessings, protection and guidance as he leaves us but we know that he will always remain part of us, part of the family of St Mary’s RC Church.  What wonders he has done for us!  St Mary’s is alive and we will continue what he has started.

Prior to this culmination, the month of May was designated as “Ministries Month” in the parish and each ministry was able to successfully display their vision, mission and all relevant information relating to their ministry on the interior walls of the church.

It will be an opportune time for Fr Gerard as the new parish priest to become familiar with these various ministries, which for the past two and a half years have become an integral part in the life of the community and at the same time it will also be an occasion for fellow parishioners to greet him.

To celebrate this big event, there will be no Saturday Evening Mass allowing for a packed attendance at church for Holy Mass carded for 8.00 a.m. on Sunday, June 4, after which we launch the Assembly of Ministries.

A light breakfast will be served and lunch will be made available at a very affordable price. There will also be entertainment and fun for everyone.

Please do not miss this event. Let’s enjoy each others company, fellowship, and the last chance to personally thank Fr Garth for the marvellous work he has done at St Mary’s and then greet and welcome our new parish priest Fr Gerard Tang Choon, O Carm. The day’s events are expected to conclude at 3.00 p.m.

A Special Farewell to Father Garth Eversley, O Carm.

May the love of God always be with you,
Wherever you go and whatever you do.
Continue to spread the good word of the Lord,
It's a priceless blessing which you can afford.

You touched the hearts and souls of us all,
You prayed with us when we felt down and about to fall,
Through God you portrayed guidance and direction,
Witnessing marriage vows with Christ's hope for perfection.

The encouragement you gave many raising funds for a new parish
Certainly got members willing to help without anguish,
We wish you God's blessings and great success,
peace, joy and happiness

Sue Jerome-Scott, for St Mary's Catholic Church, Mucurapo/St James
