The parish of St Charles Borromeo, Tunapuna held its Annual Flamboyant Easter Bonnet Parade and Tea Party on Saturday, April 22, on the parish compound.
Spectators enjoyed many fabulous displays by entrants ranging in age from as young as eight months old to 55 plus. Surprisingly, there were no male participants this year.
Eight-year-old pannist, Denzel Headley, who was joined by his father for two of his three renditions; Carissa and Crysson Joseph, a brother and sister duo from the parish, and Chris Garcia provided entertainment.
Carissa performed two songs and was accompanied by Crisson on the guitar. Rosalind Gabriel’s band for 2006, entitled “Mas, Mas Ah Know Yuh”, made a guest appearance in full costume.
One 55 Plus Ministry member had the audience screaming with laughter with her hilarious presentation, “Those Golden Days – What dat G doin dere boy? Surely dey mean OLDEN Days?”
She entertained the crowd with her mismatched clothing, “house and land”, handbag, glasses perched on the nose, hobbling on a walking stick, lifting her skirts to display a bandaged sore foot, writhing in back pain – all the while adorned in a hat covered with golden roses. She even pulled out her bottle of Limacol from her bag to sap her aching knees.
Good food, clean fun, camaraderie and wonderful prizes made this a lovely afternoon that was well spent. Join us next year on the First Sunday after Easter! |
