Cry out to God
story and picture by Desmond Durham

Despite the inclement weather on June 10 hundreds of parishioners attended the second in the series of Marian devotions, at Laventille, for 2007.

By the time the sun eventually appeared proceedings were already in high gear.  The People of Praise Community led the Divine Mercy Chaplet, the Glorious Mysteries of the rosary and the singing.

Pupils of the Basseterre R.C. School, Moruga, with their Principal Ms. Elizabeth Nandlal and accompanied by Richard Lake on the keyboard and Maggie Sookdeo on guitar further enhanced the afternoon’s event with beautiful singing during the Mass, to the delight of everyone.

Fr Christian Chambers presided at Mass and in his homily beseeched the congregation to cry out to God when things were going wrong in their homes and with their children, and God will listen.

He stated that the tears of the grieving mother mentioned in the day’s Gospel might have reminded Jesus of his own mother’s tears.

He said our Holy Mother is still crying because her children are going to ruin and we must bring an end to her tears.  He told parents not to condone their children’s wrongdoing but to cry out to God for help.

Earlier in the afternoon, in a drizzle, Father Dwight Merrick, leading a small procession, carried Our Lord in the monstrance up the hill from the Picadilly Greens.
