Sunday June 24, 2007 FROM THE PARISHES

An invitation from
Carenage parishioners

By Joan Thomas

Carenage is truly blessed by God. These were the exact words of parish priest Fr Carlyle Guiseppi CSSp as he spoke with a parishioner recently while they looked around the beautiful grounds of St Peter's Church on Constabulary Street, Carenage as they walked around talking about preparation for the upcoming parish events.

Fr Guiseppi was referring especially to the visits of Archbishop Edward Gilbert who had recently administered the sacrament of confirmation to the young candidates of the parish. He recalled that the Archbishop had also attended the Mass and brunch of the Holy Ghost Fathers on Pentecost Saturday.

Now Archbishop Gilbert has graciously consented to celebrate holy Mass on July 1 at 8 a.m. on the occasion of the feast day of their patron St Peter.

The blessing does not end there; Archbishop Gilbert will bless the fishermen's boats as they process up the Gulf of Paria to Pt Cumana.

On July 28 he will also bless the newly renovated St Peter's chapel on the waterfront, which will be preserved as a historical site.

To prepare the parishioners spiritually for these events there will be a week of activities beginning on Tuesday, June 26, with the Triduum to St Peter. This takes place at Friscoe's Junction on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6 30 p.m. and will be led by the dynamic Janet Chinnia and her dedicated team.

On Friday, June 29, the actual feast day, there will be a Mass during which the fishermen of the village will be blessed and prayed for in a special way. They in turn will treat the parishioners to their tasty fish broth and corn soup.

Mass on Sunday, July 1, at which the Archbishop will preside, will be followed by a short procession through the village of Carenage, then the blessing of the fishermen's boats in the Gulf. The annual Family Day and Harvest will continue throughout the day with a number of enjoyable activities.

Finally, but not least of all, Prime Minister, the Honourable Patrick Manning and his entourage, as well as our area representative Minister of Housing, Keith Rowley, will honour the activities with their presence during the day.

The parishioners extend an open invitation to all their friends to come and enjoy a day of fun and camaraderie starting with Holy Mass at 8.00 a.m.
