Make the spirit of the Good Samaritan part of your life. So said Cedros parish priest Fr Wilfred John, as he preached the sermon and celebrated the Mass at last Sunday’s Laventille Devotions.
Using the Gospel reading for the day, he said the parable of the good Samaritan teaches us to forget our differences and reach out to those “who are disadvantaged, are in distress and need our help”.

“The good Samaritan shows us when there is human need and suffering, we must forget differences…. We must get to the heart of charity and let our better nature shine forth.”
Fr John stressed the need to move out of our comfort zones and be people prepared to give hope.
“We have to get away from the ‘call-somebody-else’ syndrome and reach out to those asking for our help…we must bring the parable of the Good Samaritan to our level.”
In closing, Fr John said many of us have experienced good Samaritans in our lives. “Many people have been neighbours to us - Let us be neighbours to others.”
Grenada’s Bishop Emeritus Sidney Charles was present for the devotions, sitting with Archbishop Gilbert during the Mass. The Archbishop conducted Benediction earlier.
The devotion prayers were led by support couples of Retrouvaille, a Family Life Commission ministry for hurting married couples. National coordinators Louis and Glenda Blake also did the readings during Mass. Young men from the Southern Vicariate who had participated in a vocations retreat weekend, led the singing. - RS
