Santa Rosa prepares for feast
By Carrol Cachie, Office Administrator, Santa Rosa Parish

The Parish of Santa Rosa together with the Carib Community has begun planning for the celebration of our Patronal Feast of Santa Rosa de Lima. This year we mark the 220th anniversary of the celebration of this feast.

The actual feast day is Wednesday, August 23. Mass will be celebrated at 6.00 a.m. followed by a procession around the park followed by a breakfast for those persons who are able to participate.

Three days prior to this day, we propose a special Triduum from Sunday 20  – Tuesday 22 at 6.30 p.m.  On Saturday, August 26, we will have one Mass at 6.00 p.m.

The major celebration will be on Sunday August 27, beginning with Holy Mass at 9.00 a.m. Fr Clyde Harvey will break his sabbatical to be the chief celebrant and homilist for this year.

It is our desire to have a special feature on the life of Santa Rosa and the Capuchin priests who began the Mission, presented during the time leading up to the celebration.

The Mass is traditionally followed by a procession through the streets of Arima. The procession will form around the Church Park before proceeding east along Church Street, south along Queen Street, pass the Dial down to the Market.

We will proceed west along Hollis Avenue and north on Woodford Street into the front entrance of the church for the closing Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.

The entire Mass will be broadcast live by I95.5 F.M and a delayed broadcast can be viewed on the Trinity Communications Network (channel 10) for all persons who are unable to attend.

At the close of the church celebration, the Carib activities begin at the Carib Centre, which includes a display of their handicraft/art, live parang and sale of their local foods.

All persons are invited to join with the parishioners of Santa Rosa and the Carib Community in celebrating the oldest continuously celebrated festival in Trinidad.
