On August 15 and 16, 2006 Signis Caribbean was born. Its registered office will be in Trinidad and Tobago.
Signis Caribbean is a Caribbean organisation for the support and coordination of regional Catholic media practitioners/professionals.
Its formation came through the efforts of an interim working team of Caribbean Catholic media practitioners, established a year ago. The team met to review the status of Catholic communications in the dioceses served by the Antilles Episcopal Conference of Bishops.
In their meeting they finalised the draft Constitution for a Caribbean Association and planned the way forward for Catholic Communications in the Caribbean.
The meeting was held at the Trinity Communication Network (TCN) facilities in Port of Spain and was attended by representatives from Barbados, Belize, Grenada, Dominica and Trinidad and Tobago.
The draft constitution was reviewed in detail and finalised. It will be referred to a legal team for fine-tuning, prior to the formal registration of the Association.
It is proposed that the Association would be formally launched in August 2007, the scheduled timing for the first meeting of the Board to be elected.
For the immediate future, the interim working team will continue to handle all aspects of the Association’s development, including the formal admission of members, until such time as the Association’s Board is elected. |
