A wonderful spiritual experience

By Christopher Gallan

Not knowing what the “Life In the Spirit Seminar” was about, I decided to attend and I have no regrets whatsoever. It was an amazing experience for me, as a young Catholic.

On Monday, May 1, the seminar, conducted by our brothers and sisters from the Sangre Grande Parish, began at the San Rafael RC Church with praise and worship songs, and continued for seven weeks. What a sight it was to see young and old, each in their group according to their ages, all sharing on different aspects of the teachings.

It was even greater to see everyone praising, dancing and worshipping. I had no idea it was so much fun praising and worshipping the Lord our God. This was only the beginning of a beautiful relationship with our Father and without anyone having to explain the seminar to me, I began to experience it myself. I felt a spirit of joy stirring in my soul and I knew it was the beginning of my transformation.

I witnessed a greater transformation when I was baptised in the Spirit. Through the extraordinary and humorous preaching of Fr Trevor Nathasingh, our visiting priest, and parish priest Fr Michael Moses God worked miracles.

That evening, we all saw God’s power working through them. The Holy Spirit came down on us and granted me the ability to speak in Tongues.

At first I was afraid, but at the “Laying on of Hands”, I opened my hands, closed my eyes and said, “Come Holy Spirit, Come Holy Spirit”. And at that particular moment my tongue felt free and I heard myself speaking a strange language.

After this great wonderful spiritual experience in the Spirit, I felt free, I felt as if I could fly. I felt a burden lift off me and I have more confidence in myself and I can now focus more on the positive.

I thank God for granting me the privilege to have a personal relationship with him and for our brothers and sisters, including Fr Ian Taylor, from the Sangre Grande parish, for giving them the strength, wisdom, patience and understanding to help us on our way to your glory.

Thank you Fr Moses for all the time and energy you put into our spiritual growth. May you continue to receive God’s grace and guidance as you continue shepherding us.
