Sunday August 27, 2006 FROM THE PARISHES
Monday evening worship

By Bernadette Dickson

The San Rafael Prayer Group which resulted from the recently concluded Life in the Spirit Seminar, commenced on  June 19, at 6:30 p.m. and since then, we hold prayer meetings once per week, on Mondays.

Our prayer meeting commences with our youth choir members leading us in songs of Thanksgiving and Praise.  Fr Moses, our parish priest continues with songs of worship and praying and singing in tongues, climaxing with prophesying.

With the prophecies swimming around in our brains, we eventually muster up enough courage to speak out God’s Prophetic Word and then to reflect on how to incarnate it in our lives. Then we ask God to point us to Scripture passages to support His message.

This is such a miraculous part of our prayer meeting, in that at every one of our meeting, we have had Scripture passages which were right on target, supporting the prophecies.  God is good!  He is always revealing Himself to us.

Members then make a bee-line to the podium, to give thanks for wonders the Lord has done for them.  After this we greet everyone and then we settle down for some soul-nourishing  teaching.  We have had teachings on many topics e.g. Faith, Guidance, Evangelisation, Praise and the Gift of Tongues.

The latter caused a great deal of laughter on our first prayer meeting, when Auntie Babsie was teaching on the Gift of Tongues. The song chosen was a Christmas carol.

Just imagine singing a Christmas carol in the month of June! More than that, we were singing in tongues.  Well, we sounded like a bunch of mad people, so much so that Kerry (our choir leader) informed Fr Moses that St. Ann’s Mental Hospital had dispatched a van to come for us!

As you can see, our prayer meetings are far from dull.  We usually have tons of fun. We end with intercessory prayers and song.
