Sunday October 22, 2006 FROM THE PARISHES
Shifting the culture by uniting families

By S Darmanie (Senior Teacher - Brazil RC School)

Our diligent, hardworking parish priest, Fr Michael Moses, has been working steadfastly towards shifting the culture in the entire parish of San Rafael. He has instituted several programmes to educate and uplift all his parishioners, especially the youths.

One of these special occasions, was the Abstinence Club’s second annual breakfast, held on Sunday, September 17, at the San Rafael Parish Hall.

The members of the Abstinence Club dominated the event and created an atmosphere of “elegance” as they served families and friends, gathered for this occasion.

The youths were all dressed in black and white.  Kerry Ragoobarsingh, Christopher Gallan and Lliana Riddess, gave public testimonies on how God has been transforming their lives.  We were also treated to a calypso by Kerry and parang, with lead singer Marissa Rosales.

Special thanks to  Louise Aguilal (club sponsor) and Marilyn Yearwood (Talparo); Winnifred Suruijlal and Bernadette Dickson (Brazil), for their support and commitment. Together with the children, they had the event well under control and successfully managed.

In closing, I would like to encourage parents and their children to support any opportunity geared towards shifting the culture in the San Rafael parish.

Make your presence visible. Instead of “take away breakfast”, why not sit, dine, and make the occasion an elegant family affair. Judging from this year’s event, we can anticipate greater things to come, as we grow from strength to strength in the parish of San Rafael.
