Faith and Justice Commission opens secretariat office
The Faith and Justice Commission announced the opening of its Secretariat Office, located at the Monsignor Facundo Castillo Diocesan Centre, North Front Street, Belize City, in October.
The commission is comprised of members from different parishes who will work together to organise, educate and advocate for matters of social and economic justice, as an integral expression of faith and of our baptismal commitment.
One of the commission’s main goals is to establish faith and justice commissions in all parishes across the country. To this end the commission has organised workshops on orientation and formation for parishes.
The commission has also organised prayer services for victims of violence and crime, these were held in Belize City and Corozal. The commission also plans to hold one in Belmopan on November 29.

Hand In Hand Ministries completed five years of service in Belize in October. The charitable organisation is “committed to our mission of making Christ known in the world through our service to the poor.”
The organisation’s outreach programmes include building modest homes for the poorest of the poor, a scholarship programme to both secondary and tertiary level students, cafeteria programmes in several schools and an outreach centre for children affected or infected with HIV and AIDS.
In speaking about attaining their five-year milestone the organisation had this to say: “Our five years have been very good and the extent to which our services have reached with such limited resources is nothing short of a miracle. As a faith-based organisation, we are certain that our mission’s success has been through the intercession of God himself.”
Belize SVP members ensure children attend school
The members of the St Martin’s conference of the Society of St Vincent de Paul have been working especially hard to ensure that children in the community of the appropriate age attend school.
This has included assisting with registration fees, the purchase of school uniforms and, most notably, participating in the national delegation’s “Back to School” project.
This programme has aimed at distributing 2,000 packages of school supplies to students in need around the country. St Martin’s has been able to give 100 children in the community a package, encouraging their attendance and excitement for school.
