Sunday December 3, 2006 LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
A lack of good manners

DEAR EDITOR: I believe, we need to be reminded of this important topic “Good Manners - a Godly Character”.

Good manners among adults and children is sadly lacking today. The alarming, worldwide crisis of crime is evidently the result of the decay in good manners. You can get a certificate of good character from police, neighbour, teachers, preachers and even a shady character. They don’t have to know you personally - a testimony of a person’s good character on a piece of paper.

Good manners are cultivated by good breeding, upbringing, respect for self and others. It is grounded molded and maintained by constant contact with the Creator. It cannot be written on a piece of paper; it manifests itself by shaping one’s life to that of Jesus Christ, Son of the Maker.

People of the nation, wake up! Make an effort to help the future generation by word, example, good behaviour and good attitude towards each other.

Maintain dialogue with the children even if they seem angry or distant. Be there for them. For God’s sake don’t tell them to go watch TV when they decide to ask many questions.
Train up a child in the way he should go and when he grows older he will not depart from it.

Crack the rod of correction with divine intervention. Consult Proverbs for directions. Keep their vocabulary, rich and flowing with words such as “please”, “thank you”, “I’m sorry” etc. Instill in them at an early age Ex 20:8 – “Honour thy father and thy mother”.

Also, “Do unto others, as you would like them to do unto you”. Pay close attention to how they dress, how they carry themselves, how they relate to people, especially the elderly. Last, but not least, try to be their friend and know their friends also.

Help wanted for Christmas

DEAR EDITOR: My name is Harris Mahase. This appeal is to those who helped me last year for our annual Christmas treat. I am in need of your help again this year. All that you did, words can’t describe what you accomplished in helping me.

If anyone can help with a Santa Claus costume, I would be grateful. I’m responsible for doing this for my church St Martin de Porres, Coryal. You can contact me at 765-3662.
Harris Mahase, Coryal
