General elections are due to be held in St Lucia tomorrow, Monday, December 11.
Archbishop Kelvin E Felix has issued a letter to all the clergy, Religious and faithful of the Archdiocese of Castries urging them to “give much thought and prayer before you cast your vote on December 11.” The letter reminded the Catholic population of their duty of participating fully in the democratic life of the country.
The letter called upon all eligible voters to accept their responsibility to “recognise that every vote counts and they should not neglect to exercise this precious right; to weigh and examine very carefully the claims and promises made by the parties and their candidates; to reject any invitation to join in the harassment of those whose political views are contrary to those you hold; to be guided by your conscience formed by the teaching of the Catholic faith.”
Archbishop Felix ended his letter with a prayer that “our Catholics will provide courageous leadership in promoting a spirit of responsible involvement. May we follow the example of Jesus in giving special concern to issues, which deal with the family, the poor, the marginalised, the unemployed and those abused.
Finally, may this political process be guided by a deep and sincere love of God and neighbour.” |
