Diamond wedding jubilee in Santa Cruz
by Paul Cherrie

The whole purpose of human existence on earth is to put God at the centre of one’s life and affairs. This theocentric fact was revealed and emphasised as the secret of Bertie and Lucille Yearwood’s marriage success at their Diamond wedding anniversary celebrations in Santa Cruz.

Church service

The Mass of Thanksgiving for Bertie and Lucille, celebrated by parish priest Fr Benedict Hilaire, included their son, Clint and his wife, Catherine, who were celebrating their sixth wedding anniversary that day, Thursday, November 22, The Mass was celebrated at 6pm at the Holy Cross RC Church, Santa Cruz.

“We are celebrating God’s presence and God’s hand in their lives,” remarked the parish priest in his homily.

In their spontaneous prayers at the Prayers of the Faithful, the children and grandchildren thanked God for love, dedication and moral training they received from their parents.
Lucille and Bertie and Clint and Catherine renewed their vows at the end of the Mass.

Formal function

Santa Crux RC School, where Agnes Yearwood-Pridar is principal, was the venue for the formal function organised by the children and grandchildren of the jubilarians on Saturday, November 24.

They not only provided an ideal setting for the function, but also created a cultural programme, which only 60 years of happy marriage could have inspired.

Lynette, the couple’s last daughter, with her event coordinating skills (Events Limited) transformed the courtyard of the school into an outdoor ballroom.

Her marquee tents brought warmth and togetherness for the guests who were regally seated, treated and entertained.

Everyone spoke highly about the décor that incorporated a bit of the Christmas feel given the season

This lent support for the surprise guest performance of the Lara Brothers parang group in which Lennox Yearwood is a lead guitarist.

Glenis Yearwood, celebrated Music Festival Champion teamed up with internationally acclaimed Eddie Cumberbatch to produce a duet piece: Real that was well received.
Bringing greetings from overseas in English and in Spanish were Allison's daughter – Ariella (Canada); Edris and her daughter Celise (USA) and Claudia (Venezuela).
Irene Gray, Lucille's only sister joined her overseas nieces in applauding the Diamond couple.

After a well-appreciated programme guests were invited to a buffet-styled dinner catered by Mélange Restaurant.
Kathy-Ann's husband, Keith Matthews and his Total Event Services Team provided the beverages for the occasion. We thank God for the role models Bertie and Lucille are giving the young couples in the community.

We thank them, too, for the services to the Church and the society of their eleven children all of whom are alive.
As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15)
