Sunday April 3, 2005 LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

My spiritual journey

DEAR EDITOR: Fate had it for me to encounter two school friends recently. We had not seen each other for more than 30 years.

When Fr George Lewis conducted the days of prayer and fasting on Carnival Monday and Tuesday, something happened to me. The seven-year-old child who attended the both days sent a message to me. Suddenly, flashbacks of my childhood began; it was as if I was taking a walk down memory lane.

This feeling continued with me for days and weeks until finally the words of the hymn Hosea – “come back to me with all your heart” were becoming a part of my very being. A few weeks ago I returned to my old school after more than 30 years.

Lystra Yuille is now retired, but has left a legacy, because most of her past students have carried her religious teachings with them. My former Spanish teacher Ms Reyes is now the principal of the school – Point Fortin Intermediate RC School is now a primary school.

My spiritual journey began at this school. Since my confirmation in July 1990. I have no regrets about being part of the Roman Catholic Church.

A plea for computers

The Christ Child Convalescent Home in Diego Martin presently houses 45 children. Sr Regina, who is in charge, has approached the Social Outreach Committee of CMAC (Communities Mobilising Against Crime) with a request for “old generation” computers.

If any of you have computers at home or at the office which are in working order and which you would like to donate to the Home, please reply to this email – admin@cmac.co.tt giving us your contact information.

A member of the CMAC Outreach Programme will then follow up with you. There are no computers for the kids to use at the Home so that any donation you may be able to make is really appreciated.
