St Vincent Cathedral celebrates Patronal Festival

The Patronal Festival of our Cathedral was celebrated on the weekend of August 13-14. Fr Richard Paynter presided at a solemn Mass at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday 13.

Concelebrating with Fr Paynter were Frs Jim Candon and George Bardowell. This Mass was well attended. On Sunday morning Fr George Bardowell was the chief celebrant. There was a full Church at this Mass. Besides the parishioners there was a large contingent of Scouts, Cubs, and Brownies visiting from Trinidad in attendance at the Mass.

At the end of the weekend Masses there was socialisation in the courtyard. After each Mass snacks and soft drinks were served. The refreshments were prepared by Constance Spring and her helpers through the generosity of some parishioners.

On Sunday 14, as part of the celebrations for the feast of the Assumption there was a classical concert, which was of a very high quality and was well received by those who attended. Some highlights of the concert were the Ave Maria and Rest in the Lord sung by Penola Ross.

The Three Georges sang Panis Angelicus , and Trees . Other items done by Penola, the Three Georges and friends were Search Me O God , You Fill Up My Senses , and Be Exalted O Lord .

Young Anika Robinson performed a dance. The St Cecilia's Choir, Trendon Cato and Gabriel Forde did other items. At the organ was Dennis Jardine.

We thank God for a very Spirit-filled weekend as we honoured Mary the Mother of Jesus and our Mother celebrating her Assumption.
