Sunday August 28, 2005 FROM THE PARISHES
The Eucharist in Maracas Valley

With the various events taking place within the archdiocese to mark the “Year of the Eucharist”, we the parishioners of St Michael in the Maracas Valley could not be more privileged in having Jesus present with us (in exposition) for two days in the week (Tuesday and Thursdays) for twelve hours each day ( 7.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. ).

With the inspiration of our parish priest, Fr Sunny Vincent O Carm an old garage was transformed into a beautiful dwelling place for our Lord. Appropriately named after our Blessed Mother (Our Lady of Mt Carmel Chapel), who bore him in a humble stable in Bethlehem, we the adorers are not much different from the shepherds and Magi who came to do Him homage. They guided by a star and we, led by our faith, are ushered into His presence.

The effort in transformation (from garage to chapel) is truly a parish effort and continues up to this present time where more items are being sought to enhance the décor.

It goes without saying that the real beauty is held at centre stage with Jesus being present in the monstrance.

To truly comprehend His real presence as a “gift of love” is sometimes beyond us. But for those of us who have pledged to spend at least an hour with Him, the time is well spent. For adorers who choose the last hour of each day, they have the special benefit of having Benediction to conclude adoration, thanks again to Fr Sunny Vincent who always avails himself to be present with the faithful.

What better way for us as Church to celebrate this year and furthermore use it as a “spring board” to move us to a time when we in the parish could have Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration as a regular part of our lives.

Thank you Lord, for the blessings, which we have already begun to receive as a parish. Just as the old structure was physically transformed to what pertains today, we have begun to see the spiritual transformation of our people.

Where once there was unwillingness to respond to services there is now an openness to giving of self. Where once there was apathy there is now a renewed sensitivity among our people. Where once there was stagnation we are beginning to see growth.

We trust that the transforming work in us will continue as we try our best to keep faithful to our pledge.
