Sunday January 2, 2005 LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Feeling great to be Catholic

DEAR EDITOR: On behalf of the Catholic faithful of Barbados , I want to extend Seasons Greetings and in particular to say thanks for admitting four of us to the faith on November 21.

As stated by Laura Phillips in the issue of November 28, I was around for a little while attending services spasmodically with my wife who is a born Catholic, but to this day she never pressured me to leave the Anglican faith: for that matter when she realised I was becoming closer and closer and just before my conversion, she asked me if I was sure that is what I wanted being the individual I am.

My mind was made up ever since my first visit to the Living Water Community headed by Rosemary Scott, who is doing a wonderful job. My association actually started when on my third drop to the Living Water Community and my wife disembarked my vehicle I happened to ask if it was "a woman's thing" and "a Catholics thing".

Someone said, "No man, come and go up and see"; the rest is now history. I have only missed two sessions since and that was because of an unforeseen incident.

Since then I have gone on to play in the choir at Sacred Heart. Again due to the introduction of Rosemary Scott, I am also playing with the Men's Fellowship on Tuesdays and on Wednesday meetings.

I want to say, and I am also speaking for the other three, we are enjoying it and we look forward to the best for the future not only for ourselves, but the Catholic community.

We also want to offer our sincere regards to Louis whom I must say did an excellent job of preparing us for that momentous occasion in our lives.

I know we are new in the faith, but with time we look forward to even greater times and the opportunity to grow with the Church.

In only the past three years, I have seen such a change in my life that it is unbelievable. where I used to read the Bible when I feel to, I can spend at least half of an hour daily and can say prayers daily.

I am feeling great to be a Catholic. Thanks for the opportunity.

Your brother in Christ

Eternal Light Community
says thanks
DEAR EDITOR: Heaps of clothing and linen, foodstuff by the cardboard carton, medical supplies, toiletries, building materials mounting up day after day since we received the news of hurricane Ivan's devastation of Grenada ! These were the silent testimony of the love and generosity of Trinidadians as they responded with boatloads of goods shipped to Grenada .

We of the Eternal Light Community have been overwhelmed by your loving support for Grenada and for the Mt St Ervan's Retreat Centre being run by our community. As we begin a new year, we look back with thanksgiving over the year past.

We want to say a heartfelt, "thank you" to all who helped us in any way after the destruction by Ivan. The volume of support coming to us and to Grenada in general from Trinidadian communities, parishes, schools, individuals, craftsmen, pilots, workers, friends, has been unbelievable!

You have helped us tremendously by your kindness, and given us the heart and the inspiration to go on. Slowly we have been recovering and re-constructing because of the generous assistance you have offered.

There are too many benefactors to mention each one individually here; but know that many grateful prayers have been and will be offered for you, calling down God's blessings upon our Trinidadian benefactors.

We thank God also for all those who have helped the Eternal Light Community in all our activities by your kind donations and support over the past year.

The Amica House for girls, Joshua Home for boys, the Goshen Half-way House and the Vision of Hope half-way House for victims of domestic abuse and our recently initiated Vocational School still under construction - all have been blessed by your support.

We are eternally grateful. Be assured of our daily offering of prayer on your behalf. Thank you and may God richly bless you all.

Submitted by Dawn Comissiong, member of Eternal Light Community, 62 Back Street , Tunapuna.
