Church assesses progress
since Synod 2003
 

Archbishop Edward J Gilbert will deliver the opening remarks at the Second Session of the Synod, on Friday, January 14, at 8:45 a.m. The two-day Synod, January 14 and 15, will take place at the JFK Auditorium, University of the West Indies (UWI), St Augustine .

Before the two working days of Synod 2005 the opening Mass will be celebrated on Thursday 13 at 5.00 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Archbishop Gilbert will be chief celebrant.

One thousand delegates - priests, religious and lay members of the Catholic Church will meet to assess the progress made on 40 resolutions passed at the January 2003 three-day Synod of the Archdiocese of Port of Spain.

The resolutions dealt with issues of Catholic Identity, Marriage and Family Life, Catholic Education, Social Justice, Evangelisation and Communications among others.

The final resolution #40 mandated that the Church meet again in two years time.
