Sunday January 16, 2005 LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Jesus and the question of suffering

DEAR EDITOR: Many thanks for your insightful editorial on January 9 concerning the Asian tsunami disaster.

Perhaps you could have reflected more on the cryptic answer Jesus gave in similar circumstances. “ But unless you repent you will all perish as they did .” (Luke 13:3&5). We need no more encouragement to partake of the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist as often as possible. Only Jesus seems to provide an adequate answer to the question of suffering.

Brian Noreiga, D'Abadie

When exactly does
the Christmas season end?

DEAR EDITOR: Last week our choir had prepared Christmas entrance and exit hymns. Our parish priest heard the pre-Mass rehearsal and ordered a change. When told that the Catholic News had stated that the Christmas season ends with the feast of the Baptism of the Lord he said it ended with the Epiphany! Can your liturgical expert inform us who was right?
