Everyone loves receiving gifts. That's just what the community of Las Lomas received from the Las Lomas RC School on Sunday, December 5 at 6.00 p.m. One may say it was also a culmination of talents, a love for the Lord, the charisma of a humble people.
Weeks before this grand night, preparation took place. Each class level participated in song, instrumental, dance and drama. Priscilla George and Rhonda Joseph prepared the school's choir and instrumental pieces.
The concert itself was held outdoors which lent itself to a beautiful setting for a nativity. The lights, backdrop and manager mid stage added resilience and style to each item performed.
The programme commenced with the National Anthem performed by the school's steelpan ensemble. Opening remarks were made by the principal, Gloria Paris. A cordial welcome and a short message on the theme Christmas isn't Christmas without Jesus was done by David Ragoonanan.
The opening performance featured the school's choir singing the theme song Christmas isn't Christmas without Jesus with the First Year infants rendering a dance to this theme song. Pupils of Standards Two, Three, Four and Five re-enacted the Nativity.
In scene one, Mary received the news from Angel Gabriel that she was going to bear a child and he was to be named Jesus. In this scene the Second Year infants sang the Ave Maria beautifully.

Students re-enact the Nativity
In scene two the Angel Gabriel's visit was heralded by the school's steel orchestra. In scene three Mary visited her cousin Elizabeth and the students of Standard One sang melodiously to the Magnificat .
The audience was led into the fields with the shepherds where the angel told them "Be not afraid". The Standard Two students rendered While Shepherds Watched their Flocks by Night .
In scene five the choir conveyed the struggle encountered by Mary and Joseph by singing the song Little Donkey. The Standard Four recorder ensemble rendered the song The First Noel.
In the final scenes of the Nativity, Mary and Joseph are in the stable with baby Jesus wrapped in swaddling clothes. The three wise men bearing gifts, sighted and followed the star, which led them to the baby, bearing gifts.
During this homage the choir sang: We Three Kings and O Come All Ye Faithful. The school choir ended the night by singing a resounding parang Cantador Gloria with the entire audience singing and dancing as the baby Jesus lay in the manger.
Other performances were musical pieces performed on the pan, a Mexican dance by Standard Three, a Latin dance performed by past students and a special vocal rendition by Darnice Kirton a Std 5 student and her cousin Dale Ryan which brought down the house.
The evening came to an end leaving the audience certain that Christmas was not Christmas without focussing on our Saviour, Jesus Christ. |
