The National Service Team of the Charismatic Movement organised a Eucharistic Pilgrimage, which took place on Saturday, June 18.
Those who attended went by bus to St Martin de Porres Church in Rose Bank, arriving at 6:15 a.m. The Blessed Sacrament was exposed for adoration and there was praise and worship.
The Litanies of the Blessed Sacrament and of Our Lady were recited, and there were prayers of intercession for the nation and the Church in St Vincent , and prayers asking the Lord to keep the people from evil actions during the upcoming Carnival.
The group left Rose Bank at 8:15 a.m. for Our Lady of the Universe in Layou, arriving at 9:00 a.m. After the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, the passage on the Eucharist from John 6 was read and reflected on. This was followed by Mass celebrated by Fr Paul Thiruthanam. The intercessory prayers during Mass were the same as at Rose Bank.
After Mass, snacks were shared. Then, it was off to Sacred Heart Church at Rillan Hill, where the group arrived at noon . Mass was celebrated there by Fr Paul and the programme of worship was the same as at the two previous communities and lasted until 2:00 p.m.
The next stop was the Cathedral in Kingstown where an evening of renewal was celebrated from 3:00 p.m. to 5:10 p.m. It began with praise and worship, after which Romans 8: 1 - 17 was read and pondered.
Then, Sr Ivy Pacheco gave a talk on the theme, “The flesh has nothing to offer, it is the Spirit that gives life.” This was followed by sharing and discussion on the talk. Next, there were prayers for the Pope, for the Bishop, for the Universal Church , for the nation, for vocations, etc. The celebration ended with individuals being prayed over.
The group carried the Blessed Sacrament with them as they travelled through villages and towns and they prayed for the places through which they passed, and claimed them for the Lord.
On Sunday, May 19, the Cursistas had a day of Eucharistic Worship at St Theresa's Church in Gomea. The day began with Mass at 8:00 a.m. celebrated by Fr Pio Atonio, followed by exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, then praise and worship.
A scripture reading came next, “The call of Jeremiah”, and then Pearlina Marks gave a talk titled, “God calls us, and what is our response in obedience to Him?” This was followed by discussion and sharing.
Camillie Belgraves then gave a presentation on “The importance of the Eucharist in the life of the Church” and Fr George Bardowell spoke about “The Eucharist as covenant, the Eucharist as sacrifice, the Eucharist sending us for mission.”
After lunch, Fr George discussed the structure of the Mass, reconciliation as fruit of the Eucharist, and the Church's liturgical year.
The talks by Mrs Belgraves and Fr George were followed by question and answer periods and sharing. After some silent adoration came the litany of the “Holy Name of Jesus” and the act of “Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus”. The day ended with benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.
The Cathedral parish in St Vincent has exposition and Eucharistic adoration Monday to Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and all day on Fridays. The other parishes have exposition and Eucharistic adoration one evening each week. |
